Die 9 Decembris 2025.

S. Ambrosii Episcopi Confessoris et Ecclesia Doctoris.

Duplex Minus. (m.t.v.)

Amen.
Dómine in unióne illíus divínæ intentiónis, qua ipse in terris laudes Deo persolvísti, has tibi Horas persólvo.

O Lord, open Thou my mouth that I may bless Thy Holy Name. Cleanse my heart from all vain, evil, and wandering thoughts; enlighten my understanding; kindle my affections, that I may pray to, and praise Thee with attention and devotion; and may worthily be heard before the presence of Thy Divine Majesty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Lord, in union with that Divine Intention wherewith Thou didst Thyself praise God, while as Thou wast on earth, I offer these Hours unto Thee.

Ad Matutinum.

Dicuntur secreto.

Pater noster, qui es in cœlis: sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cœlo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris: et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem: sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven: hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us: and lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Ave María, grátia plena, Dóminus tecum: benedícta tu in muliéribus, et benedíctus fructus ventris tui Jesus. Sancta María, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatóribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Credo in Spíritum sanctum, sanctam Ecclésiam cathólicam, sanctórum communiónem, remissiónem peccatórum, carnis resurrectiónem, vitam ætérnam. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell: the third day He rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of sins, the Resurrection of the body. And the Life everlasting. Amen.

Deinde clara voce:

℣. Dómine, †︎ lábia mea apéries.
℟. Et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.

℣. O Lord, open Thou my lips.
℟. And my mouth shall show forth Thy praise.

℣. Deus ✠ in adjutórium meum inténde.
℟. Dómine ad adjuvándum me festína.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen. Allelúja.

℣. Make haste, ✠ O God, to deliver me.
℟. Make haste to help me, O Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia.

Invitatorium.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him.

Psalmus 94.

Veníte, exsultémus Dómino, jubilémus Deo salutári nostro: præoccupémus fáciem ejus in confessióne, et in psalmis jubilémus ei.

O come, let us sing unto the Lord, let us make a joyful noise to the God of our Salvation: let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him.

Quóniam Deus magnus Dóminus, et Rex magnus super omnes deos: quóniam non repéllet Dóminus plebem suam, quia in manu ejus sunt omnes fines terræ, et altitúdines móntium ipse cónspicit.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods: for the Lord will not cast off His people: for in His hand are all the ends of the earth; and the heights of the hills are His also.

Veníte adorémus.

O come, let us worship Him.

For the sea is His, and He made it: and His hands formed the dry land: O come, let us worship and fall down; let us cry unto the Lord our Maker. For He is the Lord our God; and we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him.

Hódie si vocem ejus audiéritis, nolíte obduráre corda vestra, sicut in exacerbatióne secúndum diem tentatiónis in desérto: ubi tentavérunt me patres vestri, probavérunt et vidérunt ópera mea.

To-day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your heart; as in in the Provocation, and as in the day of Temptation in the wilderness: when your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My works.

Veníte adorémus.

O come, let us worship Him.

Quadragínta annis próximus fui generatióni huic, et dixi, Semper hi errant corde: ipsi vero non cognovérunt vias meas, quibus jurávi in ira mea, si introíbunt in réquiem meam.

Forty years long was I grieved with that generation and said, It is a people that do alway err in their heart, and they have not known My ways: unto whom I sware in My wrath that they should not enter into My rest.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him.

Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui sancto. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Veníte adorémus.

O come, let us worship Him.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him.

Nocturnus I.

Blessed is the man * that doth meditate in the law of the Lord: his delight is therein day and night, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Psalmus 1.

Amen.

Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, * nor sat in the chair of pestilence.
2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, * and on his law he shall meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, * which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season.
4 And his leaf shall not fall off: * and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.
5 Not so the wicked, not so: * but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.
6 Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: * nor sinners in the council of the just.
7 For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: * and the way of the wicked shall perish.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Blessed is the man that doth meditate in the law of the Lord: his delight is therein day and night, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Beátus iste sanctus, * qui confísus est in Dómino, prædicávit præcéptum Dómini, constítues est in monte sancto ejus.

Blessed and holy is he * that putteth his trust in the Lord, that declareth the decree of the Lord, and is set upon His holy hill.

Psalmus 2.

3 Dirumpámus víncula eórum: * et projiciámus a nobis jugum ipsórum.
4 Qui hábitat in cœlis, irridébit eos: * et Dóminus subsannábit eos.
7 Dóminus dixit ad me: * Fílius meus es tu, ego hódie génui te.
8 Póstula a me, et dabo tibi Gentes hæreditátem tuam, * et possessiónem tuam términos terræ.
9 Reges eos in virga férrea, * et tamquam vas fíguli confrínges eos.
11 Servíte Dómino in timóre: * et exsultáte ei cum tremóre.
Amen.

Why have the Gentiles raged, * and the people devised vain things?
2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, * against the Lord and against his Christ.
3 Let us break their bonds asunder: * and let us cast away their yoke from us.
4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: * and the Lord shall deride them.
5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, * and trouble them in his rage.
6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, * preaching his commandment.
7 The Lord hath said to me: * Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, * and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, * and shalt break them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10 And now, O ye kings, understand: * receive instruction, you that judge the earth.
11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: * and rejoice unto him with trembling.
12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, * and you perish from the just way.
13 When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, * blessed are all they that trust in him.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Beátus iste sanctus, qui confísus est in Dómino, prædicávit præcéptum Dómini, constítues est in monte sancto ejus.

Blessed and holy is he that putteth his trust in the Lord, that declareth the decree of the Lord, and is set upon His holy hill.

Thou, O Lord, art my glory, * Thou art a shield for me: Thou art the Lifter-up of mine head, and Thou hast heard me out of Thy holy hill.

Psalmus 3.

Dómine quid multiplicáti sunt qui tríbulant me? * multi insúrgunt advérsum me.
6 Non timébo míllia pópuli circumdántis me: * exsúrge Dómine salvum me fac, Deus meus.
Amen.

Why, O Lord, are they multiplied that afflict me? * Many are they who rise up against me.
2 Many say to my soul: * There is no salvation for him in his God.
3 But thou, O Lord art my protector, * my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
4 I have cried to the Lord with my voice: * and he hath heard me from his holy hill.
5 I have slept and taken my rest: * and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.
6 I will not fear thousands of the people, surrounding me: * arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.
7 For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: * thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.
8 Salvation is of the Lord: * and thy blessing is upon thy people.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Thou, O Lord, art my glory, Thou art a shield for me: Thou art the Lifter-up of mine head, and Thou hast heard me out of Thy holy hill.

Sap. 39.

℟. Deo grátias.

He that is wise will seek out the wisdom of all the antient, and be occupied in prophecies. He will keep the sayings of the renowned men, and where subtil parables are, he will be there also. He will seek out the secrets of grave sentences, and be conversant in dark parables. He will serve among great men, and appear before princes. He will travel through strange countries, for he will try the good and the evil among men.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. Deo grátias.

He will give his heart to resort early to the Lord that made him, and will pray before the most High. He will open his mouth in prayer, and make supplication for his sins. If the great Lord will, He will fill him with the spirit of understanding, and he shall make the utterances of his wisdom to distil as the rain, and shall give thanks unto the Lord in his prayer. He shall direct his counsel and knowledge, and in His secrets shall he meditate.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. Deo grátias.

He shall show forth that which he hath learnt, and shall glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord. Many shall commend his understanding, and it shall not be blotted out for ever. ℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. Thou art a Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedek.

Nocturnus II.

Invocántem exaudívit * Dóminus sanctum suum, Dóminus exaudívit eum, et constítuit eum in pace.

When His holy one called, * the Lord called him; yea, the Lord heard him, and gave him peace.

Psalmus 4.

Cum invocárem exaudívit me Deus justítiæ meæ: * in tribulatióne dilatásti mihi.
9 In pace in idípsum * dórmiam, et requiéscam;
10 Quóniam tu Dómine singuláriter in spe * constituísti me.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me: * when I was in distress, thou hast enlarged me.
2 Have mercy on me: * and hear my prayer.
3 O ye sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? * why do you love vanity, and seek after lying?
4 Know ye also that the Lord hath made his holy one wonderful: * the Lord will hear me when I shall cry unto him.
5 Be angry, and sin not: † the things you say in your hearts, * be sorry for them upon your beds.
6 Offer up the sacrifice of justice, † and trust in the Lord: * many say, Who sheweth us good things?
7 The light of thy countenance O Lord, is signed upon us: * thou hast given gladness in my heart.
8 By the fruit of their corn, their wine and oil, * they are multiplied.
9 In peace in the selfsame * I will sleep, and I will rest:
10 For thou, O Lord, singularly * hast settled me in hope.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Invocántem exaudívit Dóminus sanctum suum, Dóminus exaudívit eum, et constítuit eum in pace.

When His holy one called, the Lord called him; yea, the Lord heard him, and gave him peace.

Læténtur omnes, * qui sperant in te Dómine: quóniam tu benedixísti justo, scuto bonæ voluntátis tuæ coronásti eum.

Let all those rejoice, * that put their trust in Thee, O Lord, for Thou hast blessed the righteous; Thou hast compassed him with Thy favour as with a shield.

Psalmus 5.

9 Dómine deduc me in justítia tua: * propter inimícos meos dírige in conspéctu tuo viam meam.
12 Décidant a cogitatiónibus suis, secúndum multitúdinem impietátum eórum expélle eos, * quóniam irritavérunt te Dómine.
13 Et læténtur omnes, qui sperant in te, * in ætérnum exsultábunt: et habitábis in eis.
14 Et gloriabúntur in te omnes, qui díligunt nomen tuum, * quóniam tu benedíces justo.
15 Dómine, ut scuto bonæ voluntátis tuæ * coronásti nos.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Give ear, O Lord, to my words, * understand my cry.
2 Hearken to the voice of my prayer, * O my King and my God.
3 For to thee will I pray: * O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.
4 In the morning I will stand before thee, and will see: * because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.
5 Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: * nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.
6 Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: * Thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie.
7 The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor. * But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy,
8 I will come into thy house; * I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.
9 Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: * because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
10 For there is no truth in their mouth; * their heart is vain.
11 Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues: * judge them, O God.
12 Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: * for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
13 But let all them be glad that hope in thee: * they shall rejoice for ever, and thou shalt dwell in them.
14 And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee: * For thou wilt bless the just.
15 O Lord as with a shield of thy good will * thou hast crowned us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Læténtur omnes, qui sperant in te Dómine: quóniam tu benedixísti justo, scuto bonæ voluntátis tuæ coronásti eum.

Let all those rejoice, that put their trust in Thee, O Lord, for Thou hast blessed the righteous; Thou hast compassed him with Thy favour as with a shield.

O Lord, our Ruler, * how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth! Who hast crowned Thine holy one with glory and honour, and madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands.

Psalmus 8.

Amen.

O Lord our Lord, * how admirable is thy name in the whole earth!
2 For thy magnificence is elevated * above the heavens.
3 Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou hast perfected praise, because of thy enemies, * that thou mayst destroy the enemy and the avenger.
4 For I will behold thy heavens, the works of thy fingers: * the moon and the stars which thou hast founded.
5 What is man that thou art mindful of him? * or the son of man that thou visitest him?
6 Thou hast made him a little less than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honour: * And hast set him over the works of thy hands.
7 Thou hast subjected all things under his feet, * all sheep and oxen: moreover the beasts also of the fields.
8 The birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea, * that pass through the paths of the sea.
9 O Lord our Lord, * how admirable is thy name in all the earth!
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

℟. Deo grátias.

It beseemeth well that the holy Doctors be figured by Hyades, for these stars are so styled from the Greek word hyetos, and hyetos signifieth rain. The Hyades are therefore named after rain, because when they rise they undoubtedly bring rain. Well, then, do we apply the name of the Hyades to those who, when they rise to shine in the firmament of the universal Church, make the rain of holy preaching to fall upon the parched ground of man’s heart. For if the word of preaching had not been as rain, then had Moses never said: My doctrine shall drop as the rain, nor had the Truth said by Isaiah: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it, nor yet these words which we have just quoted: Therefore the rain-stars have been withholden.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Ergo sanctus epíscopus pro Ecclésia Dei máximis labóribus curísque perfúnctus, multis libris étiam egrégie conscríptis, ántequam in morbum incíderet, mortis suæ diem prædíxit. Ad quem ægrótum Honorátus Vercellénsis epíscopus, Dei voce ter admónitus, accúrrit, eíque sanctum Dómini corpus prǽbuit: quo ille sumpto, conformátis in crucis similitúdinem mánibus, orans, ánimam Deo réddidit prídie Nonas Aprílis, anno post Christum natum trecentésimo nonagésimo séptimo.

℟. Deo grátias.

At the same time that the Hyades come bringing rain, the sun daily riseth higher in the heavens: thus do we, seeing the learning of the Doctors, and having our minds saturated with the rain of preaching, grow warmer in faith. And when the hot heavens shine fiery over her, the wet earth tendeth to harvest: thus do we, when the fire of holy learning burneth bright in our heart, tend to bring forth the fruit of good works. When, day by day, we learn more of the knowledge of heavenly things, a spring-time of inward light is opening within us, a new Sun is irradiating our mind, and, as we know Him better by the words of His Teachers, He doth daily Himself shine the more therein. As the end of the world groweth nearer, the knowledge of things heavenly will grow greater, and continue to develop with time.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Dómine, * iste sanctus habitábit in tabernáculo tuo, operátus est justítiam, requiéscet in monte sancto tuo.

Lord, * this Thy Saint shall dwell in Thy tabernacle, and this that hath worked righteousness shall abide upon Thy holy hill.

Psalmus 14.

Dómine quis habitábit in tabernáculo tuo?

Lord, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle? * or who shall rest in thy holy hill?
2 He that walketh without blemish, * and worketh justice:
3 He that speaketh truth in his heart, * who hath not used deceit in his tongue:
4 Nor hath done evil to his neighbour: * nor taken up a reproach against his neighbours.
5 In his sight the malignant is brought to nothing: * but he glorifieth them that fear the Lord.
6 He that sweareth to his neighbour, and deceiveth not; * He that hath not put out his money to usury, nor taken bribes against the innocent:
7 He that doth these things * shall not be moved for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Dómine, iste sanctus habitábit in tabernáculo tuo, operátus est justítiam, requiéscet in monte sancto tuo.

11 Quóniam declinavérunt in te mala: * cogitavérunt consília, quæ non potuérunt stabilíre.

In thy strength, O Lord, the king shall joy; * and in thy salvation he shall rejoice exceedingly.
2 Thou hast given him his heart's desire: * and hast not withholden from him the will of his lips.
3 For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness: * thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones.
4 He asked life of thee: * and thou hast given him length of days for ever and ever.
5 His glory is great in thy salvation: * glory and great beauty shalt thou lay upon him.
6 For thou shalt give him to be a blessing for ever and ever: * thou shalt make him joyful in gladness with thy countenance.
7 For the king hopeth in the Lord: * and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.
8 Let thy hand be found by all thy enemies: * let thy right hand find out all them that hate thee.
9 Thou shalt make them as an oven of fire, in the time of thy anger: * the Lord shall trouble them in his wrath, and fire shall devour them.
10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth: * and their seed from among the children of men.
11 For they have intended evils against thee: * they have devised counsels which they have not been able to establish.
12 For thou shalt make them turn their back: * in thy remnants thou shalt prepare their face.
13 Be thou exalted, O Lord, in thy own strength: * we will sing and praise thy power.

Léctio sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

A Lesson from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Matth. 5. b.

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Vos estis sal terræ. Quod si sal evanúerit, in quo saliétur? Et réliqua.

At that time: Jesus said unto His disciples: Ye are the salt of the earth. But if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? And so on.

Homilía sancti Hilárii Epíscopi.

Homily by St. Hilary, Bishop.

Comm. in Matthæum, can. 4.

℟. Deo grátias.

Ye are the salt of the earth. But if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. There is, I take it, no such thing as salt of the earth. How, then, can the Apostles be called the salt of the earth? But the true meaning of these words will be made plain, when we consider the duty of Apostles, and the nature of salt itself. Now, salt is a compound of the elements of water and fire, out of the which two things in salt there is made one.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Responsorium VII.

℟. Amávit eum Dóminus, et ornávit eum: stolam glóriæ índuit eum, * Et ad portas paradísi coronávit eum.
℣. Induit eum Dóminus lorícam fídei, et ornávit eum.
℟. Et ad portas paradísi coronávit eum.

℟. The Lord loved him and beautified him: He clothed him with a robe of glory, * And crowned him at the gates of Paradise.
℣. The Lord hath put on him the breast-plate of faith, and hath adorned him.
℟. And crowned him at the gates of Paradise.

℟. Deo grátias.

This thing, therefore, thus made to serve in divers ways the use of men, doth keep from corruption bodies whereon it is sprinkled, and doth readily yield to all the senses the perception of its inborn savour. And thus are the Apostles, seeing that they are the preachers of the kingdom of heaven, and in a certain sense the sowers of the seed of life everlasting, since that Word of God which they scatter hath power to make this mortal put on immortality. Meetly then are they called salt, the savour of whose teaching doth keep sweet the receiver thereof even unto life everlasting.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. Et implévit eum Dóminus spíritu sapiéntiæ et intelléctus.

Verum quia conversióni homo súbjacet, et solus beátus, qui usque ad finem in ómnibus Dei opéribus permánserit: ídeo eos sal terræ nuncupátos monet in tráditæ sibi potestátis virtúte persístere, ne infatuáti nihil sáliant, et ipsi, sensu accépti sapóris amísso, vivificáre corrúpta non possint, et projécti de Ecclésiæ promptuáriis, cum his quos salíerint, pédibus incedéntium proterántur.
Tu autem Dómine miserére nobis.
℟. Deo grátias.

But the nature of salt is to be ever the same, and unchanging, and, on the other hand, the nature of man hath this weakness, to be changeable. He only is blessed who hath continued even unto the end in all the works which God hath commanded. Therefore doth the Lord warn them whom He calleth the salt of the earth, that they are behoven to remain strong in that strength which He hath given unto them, lest, becoming themselves savourless, they should be impotent to season others; losing the freshness of their own saltness, be unable to stop the corruption round about them; and so the Church cast them out of her buttery, and they and those that they should have salted, be together trodden under foot of such as enter in.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

8 Et in velaménto alárum tuárum exsultábo, adhǽsit ánima mea post te: * me suscépit déxtera tua.
9 Ipsi vero in vanum quæsiérunt ánimam meam, introíbunt in inferióra terræ: * tradéntur in manus gládii, partes vúlpium erunt.
10 Rex vero lætábitur in Deo, laudabúntur omnes qui jurant in eo: * quia obstrúctum est os loquéntium iníqua.

O God, my God, * to thee do I watch at break of day.
2 For thee my soul hath thirsted; * for thee my flesh, O how many ways!
3 In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: * so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.
4 For thy mercy is better than lives: * thee my lips shall praise.
5 Thus will I bless thee all my life long: * and in thy name I will lift up my hands.
6 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: * and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.
7 If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning: * because thou hast been my helper.
8 And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings: my soul hath stuck close to thee: * thy right hand hath received me.
9 But they have sought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth: * they shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes.
10 But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: * because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.

1 May God have mercy on us, and bless us: * may he cause the light of his countenance to shine upon us, and may he have mercy on us.
2 That we may know thy way upon earth: * thy salvation in all nations.
3 Let people confess to thee, O God: * let all people give praise to thee.
4 Let the nations be glad and rejoice: * for thou judgest the people with justice, and directest the nations upon earth.
5 Let the people, O God, confess to thee: let all the people give praise to thee: * the earth hath yielded her fruit.
6 May God, our God bless us, may God bless us: * and all the ends of the earth fear him.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, * for He hath visited and redeemed His people.
2 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, * in the house of His servant David:
3 As He spake by the mouth of His holy Prophets, * which have been since the world began:
4 That we should be saved from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:
5 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, * and to remember His holy covenant:
6 The oath which He sware to our father Abraham, * that He would grant unto us,
7 That we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, * might serve Him without fear,
8 In holiness and righteousness before Him * all the days of our life.
9 And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways:
10 To give knowledge of salvation unto His people, * by the remission of their sins;
11 Through the tender mercy of our God, * whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
12 To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, * to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
