Die 20 Maji 2026.

S. Bernardini Senensis Confessoris.

Semiduplex.

Amen.
Dómine in unióne illíus divínæ intentiónis, qua ipse in terris laudes Deo persolvísti, has tibi Horas persólvo.

O Lord, open Thou my mouth that I may bless Thy Holy Name. Cleanse my heart from all vain, evil, and wandering thoughts; enlighten my understanding; kindle my affections, that I may pray to, and praise Thee with attention and devotion; and may worthily be heard before the presence of Thy Divine Majesty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Lord, in union with that Divine Intention wherewith Thou didst Thyself praise God, while as Thou wast on earth, I offer these Hours unto Thee.

Ad Matutinum.

Dicuntur secreto.

Pater noster, qui es in cœlis: sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cœlo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris: et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem: sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven: hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us: and lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Ave María, grátia plena, Dóminus tecum: benedícta tu in muliéribus, et benedíctus fructus ventris tui Jesus. Sancta María, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatóribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Credo in Spíritum sanctum, sanctam Ecclésiam cathólicam, sanctórum communiónem, remissiónem peccatórum, carnis resurrectiónem, vitam ætérnam. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell: the third day He rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of sins, the Resurrection of the body. And the Life everlasting. Amen.

Deinde clara voce:

℣. Dómine, †︎ lábia mea apéries.
℟. Et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.

℣. O Lord, open Thou my lips.
℟. And my mouth shall show forth Thy praise.

℣. Deus ✠ in adjutórium meum inténde.
℟. Dómine ad adjuvándum me festína.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen. Allelúja.

℣. Make haste, ✠ O God, to deliver me.
℟. Make haste to help me, O Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia.

Invitatorium.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Psalmus 94.

Veníte, exsultémus Dómino, jubilémus Deo salutári nostro: præoccupémus fáciem ejus in confessióne, et in psalmis jubilémus ei.

O come, let us sing unto the Lord, let us make a joyful noise to the God of our Salvation: let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Quóniam Deus magnus Dóminus, et Rex magnus super omnes deos: quóniam non repéllet Dóminus plebem suam, quia in manu ejus sunt omnes fines terræ, et altitúdines móntium ipse cónspicit.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods: for the Lord will not cast off His people: for in His hand are all the ends of the earth; and the heights of the hills are His also.

Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

For the sea is His, and He made it: and His hands formed the dry land: O come, let us worship and fall down; let us cry unto the Lord our Maker. For He is the Lord our God; and we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Hódie si vocem ejus audiéritis, nolíte obduráre corda vestra, sicut in exacerbatióne secúndum diem tentatiónis in desérto: ubi tentavérunt me patres vestri, probavérunt et vidérunt ópera mea.

To-day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your heart; as in in the Provocation, and as in the day of Temptation in the wilderness: when your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My works.

Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Quadragínta annis próximus fui generatióni huic, et dixi, Semper hi errant corde: ipsi vero non cognovérunt vias meas, quibus jurávi in ira mea, si introíbunt in réquiem meam.

Forty years long was I grieved with that generation and said, It is a people that do alway err in their heart, and they have not known My ways: unto whom I sware in My wrath that they should not enter into My rest.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui sancto. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Regem Confessórum Dóminum, * Veníte adorémus, allelúja.

The Lord, He is the King of the Confessors. * O come, let us worship Him, Alleluia.

Nocturnus I.

Beátus vir,

Blessed is the man.

Psalmus 1.

Amen.

Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, * nor sat in the chair of pestilence.
2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, * and on his law he shall meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, * which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season.
4 And his leaf shall not fall off: * and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.
5 Not so the wicked, not so: * but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.
6 Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: * nor sinners in the council of the just.
7 For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: * and the way of the wicked shall perish.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 2.

3 Dirumpámus víncula eórum: * et projiciámus a nobis jugum ipsórum.
4 Qui hábitat in cœlis, irridébit eos: * et Dóminus subsannábit eos.
7 Dóminus dixit ad me: * Fílius meus es tu, ego hódie génui te.
8 Póstula a me, et dabo tibi Gentes hæreditátem tuam, * et possessiónem tuam términos terræ.
9 Reges eos in virga férrea, * et tamquam vas fíguli confrínges eos.
11 Servíte Dómino in timóre: * et exsultáte ei cum tremóre.
Amen.

Why have the Gentiles raged, * and the people devised vain things?
2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, * against the Lord and against his Christ.
3 Let us break their bonds asunder: * and let us cast away their yoke from us.
4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: * and the Lord shall deride them.
5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, * and trouble them in his rage.
6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, * preaching his commandment.
7 The Lord hath said to me: * Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, * and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, * and shalt break them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10 And now, O ye kings, understand: * receive instruction, you that judge the earth.
11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: * and rejoice unto him with trembling.
12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, * and you perish from the just way.
13 When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, * blessed are all they that trust in him.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 3.

Dómine quid multiplicáti sunt qui tríbulant me? * multi insúrgunt advérsum me.
6 Non timébo míllia pópuli circumdántis me: * exsúrge Dómine salvum me fac, Deus meus.
Amen.

Why, O Lord, are they multiplied that afflict me? * Many are they who rise up against me.
2 Many say to my soul: * There is no salvation for him in his God.
3 But thou, O Lord art my protector, * my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
4 I have cried to the Lord with my voice: * and he hath heard me from his holy hill.
5 I have slept and taken my rest: * and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.
6 I will not fear thousands of the people, surrounding me: * arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.
7 For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: * thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.
8 Salvation is of the Lord: * and thy blessing is upon thy people.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Incipit Epístola secúnda beáti Joánnis Apóstoli.

II. Joann. 1.

Gavísus sum valde, quóniam invéni de fíliis tuis ambulántes in veritáte, sicut mandátum accépimus a Patre.
℟. Deo grátias.

But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Responsorium I.

℟. Euge serve bone et fidélis, quia in pauca fuísti fidélis, supra multa te constítuam: * Intra in gaúdium Dómini tui, allelúja.
℣. Dómine quinque talénta tradidísti mihi, ecce ália quinque superlucrátus sum.
℟. Intra in gaúdium Dómini tui, allelúja.

℟. Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; * Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord, Alleluia.
℣. Lord, Thou deliveredst unto me five talents; behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
℟. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord, Alleluia.

Lectio II.

Jube, domne, benedícere.
Unigénitus Dei Fílius * nos benedícere et adjuváre dignétur.
℟. Amen.

Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
May the Son, the Sole-begotten, * mercifully bless and keep us.
Amen.

℟. Deo grátias.

But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Responsorium II.

℟. Justus germinábit sicut lílium: * Et florébit in ætérnum ante Dóminum, allelúja.
℣. Plantátus in domo Dómini, in átriis domus Dei nostri.
℟. Et florébit in ætérnum ante Dóminum, allelúja.

℟. The righteous shall grow as the lily, * Yea, he shall flourish in the presence of the Lord for ever, Alleluia.

Spíritus sancti grátia * illúminet sensus et corda nostra.
℟. Amen.

Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
May the grace of God the Spirit * all our heart and mind enlighten.
Amen.

℟. Deo grátias.

But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.

℣. This is he which loved not his life in the world, and is come unto an everlasting kingdom.
℟. And he is numbered among the Saints, Alleluia.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. And he is numbered among the Saints, Alleluia.

Nocturnus II.

Invocántem exaudívit.

When His holy one called,

Psalmus 4.

Cum invocárem exaudívit me Deus justítiæ meæ: * in tribulatióne dilatásti mihi.
9 In pace in idípsum * dórmiam, et requiéscam;
10 Quóniam tu Dómine singuláriter in spe * constituísti me.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me: * when I was in distress, thou hast enlarged me.
2 Have mercy on me: * and hear my prayer.
3 O ye sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? * why do you love vanity, and seek after lying?
4 Know ye also that the Lord hath made his holy one wonderful: * the Lord will hear me when I shall cry unto him.
5 Be angry, and sin not: † the things you say in your hearts, * be sorry for them upon your beds.
6 Offer up the sacrifice of justice, † and trust in the Lord: * many say, Who sheweth us good things?
7 The light of thy countenance O Lord, is signed upon us: * thou hast given gladness in my heart.
8 By the fruit of their corn, their wine and oil, * they are multiplied.
9 In peace in the selfsame * I will sleep, and I will rest:
10 For thou, O Lord, singularly * hast settled me in hope.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 5.

9 Dómine deduc me in justítia tua: * propter inimícos meos dírige in conspéctu tuo viam meam.
12 Décidant a cogitatiónibus suis, secúndum multitúdinem impietátum eórum expélle eos, * quóniam irritavérunt te Dómine.
13 Et læténtur omnes, qui sperant in te, * in ætérnum exsultábunt: et habitábis in eis.
14 Et gloriabúntur in te omnes, qui díligunt nomen tuum, * quóniam tu benedíces justo.
15 Dómine, ut scuto bonæ voluntátis tuæ * coronásti nos.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Give ear, O Lord, to my words, * understand my cry.
2 Hearken to the voice of my prayer, * O my King and my God.
3 For to thee will I pray: * O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.
4 In the morning I will stand before thee, and will see: * because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.
5 Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: * nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.
6 Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: * Thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie.
7 The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor. * But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy,
8 I will come into thy house; * I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.
9 Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: * because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
10 For there is no truth in their mouth; * their heart is vain.
11 Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues: * judge them, O God.
12 Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: * for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
13 But let all them be glad that hope in thee: * they shall rejoice for ever, and thou shalt dwell in them.
14 And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee: * For thou wilt bless the just.
15 O Lord as with a shield of thy good will * thou hast crowned us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 8.

O Lord our Lord, * how admirable is thy name in the whole earth!
2 For thy magnificence is elevated * above the heavens.
3 Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou hast perfected praise, because of thy enemies, * that thou mayst destroy the enemy and the avenger.
4 For I will behold thy heavens, the works of thy fingers: * the moon and the stars which thou hast founded.
5 What is man that thou art mindful of him? * or the son of man that thou visitest him?
6 Thou hast made him a little less than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honour: * And hast set him over the works of thy hands.
7 Thou hast subjected all things under his feet, * all sheep and oxen: moreover the beasts also of the fields.
8 The birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea, * that pass through the paths of the sea.
9 O Lord our Lord, * how admirable is thy name in all the earth!
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Bernardínus Albizésca, nóbili Senénsi família ortus, ab ineúnte ætáte non obscúra sanctitátis dedit indícia; nam a piis paréntibus honéste educátus, negléctis puerílibus ludis, inter prima grammáticæ stúdia pietátis opéribus ánimum inténdit, jejúniis, oratióni, et beatíssimæ Vírginis cúltui præcípue addíctus. Misericórdia vero in paúperes fuit insígnis: quæ quidem ómnia procedénte témpore quo mélius posset excólere, eórum número adscríbi vóluit, qui Senis in hospitáli domo beátæ Maríæ de Scala Deo insérviunt, unde complúres sanctitáte célebres viri prodiérunt. Ibi córporis afflictatióne, et ægrotántium cura, dum atrox pestiléntia grassarétur, incredíbili caritáte sese exércuit. Inter céteras autem virtútes, castitátem, egrégia forma repugnánte, sanctíssime custodívit, ádeo ut eo præsénte nemo umquam, ne impudentíssimus quidem, verbum minus honéstum proférre audéret.

Gravi morbo tentátus, eóque ad quátuor menses patientíssime toleráto, demum incólumis, de religiósæ vitæ institúto capesséndo deliberáre cœpit; quo ut sibi viam muníret, ædículam in extréma urbe condúxit; in quam cum sese abdidísset, aspérrimam omni ex parte vitam trahébat, Deum assídue orans, ut, quid sibi sequéndum esset, osténderet; quare divínitus factum est, ut beáti Francísci órdinem præ céteris optáret, in quo humilitáte, patiéntia, aliísque religiósi hóminis virtútibus excélluit. Here there are sicknesses, here there are strivings, here there are untimely deaths, here there are lies, here there are jealousies, here there are troubles, here there is anger, here there are lustings, here there are pit-falls unnumbered, here there are daily cares, here one evil followeth after another, and all bring vexation. And yet Paul hath it that even here a man may rejoice evermore, if he will but raise his head above the flood of earthly things, and order his life aright. How much better shall we fare when we have passed away from all these things, and all these things are taken away from us, when we shall have no ill-health, nor disease, nor matter wherein to sin, when that hard thing, right of property, shall exist no more, whereby all unrighteousness cometh into this life, and strifes unnumbered are begotten.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Cumque ea témpora vítiis criminibúsque redundárent, et cruéntis factiónibus in Itália, divína humanáque ómnia permíxta essent, Bernardínus urbes atque óppida concúrsans, in nómine Jesu, quem semper in ore et in péctore gerébat, collápsam pietátem, morésque verbo et exémplo magna ex parte restítuit: quo factum est, ut præcláræ civitátes eum sibi epíscopum a Summo Pontífice postulárent: quod ille munus invícta humilitáte constantíssime rejécit. Dénique vir Dei imménsis labóribus exhaústus, multis magnísque éditis miráculis, libris étiam pie doctéque conscríptis, cum vixísset annos sex ac sexagínta, in urbe Aquila in Vestínis beáto fine quiévit. ℟. Deo grátias.

In this verily do I most chiefly rejoice, for the happiness of that holy servant of God, in that, being taken away hence, and having found here no abiding city, he is become a citizen of that other city, which is the city of the living God: from the Church here he is gone, but he is come unto the Church of the first-born, which are written in heaven; he keepeth holiday with us no more, but he is passed to where he holdeth high festival with Angels. And what be that city, and that Church, and that festival above, Paul biddeth us know, saying: Ye are come unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and unto the Church of the first-born which are written in heaven, and to an innumerable company of Angels.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Nocturnus III.

Dómine,

Lord,

Psalmus 14.

Dómine quis habitábit in tabernáculo tuo?
Amen.

Lord, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle? * or who shall rest in thy holy hill?
2 He that walketh without blemish, * and worketh justice:
3 He that speaketh truth in his heart, * who hath not used deceit in his tongue:
4 Nor hath done evil to his neighbour: * nor taken up a reproach against his neighbours.
5 In his sight the malignant is brought to nothing: * but he glorifieth them that fear the Lord.
6 He that sweareth to his neighbour, and deceiveth not; * He that hath not put out his money to usury, nor taken bribes against the innocent:
7 He that doth these things * shall not be moved for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 20.

Dómine in virtúte tua lætábitur rex: * et super salutáre tuum exsultábit veheménter.
11 Quóniam declinavérunt in te mala: * cogitavérunt consília, quæ non potuérunt stabilíre.
12 Quóniam pones eos dorsum: * in relíquiis tuis præparábis vultum eórum.
13 Exaltáre Dómine in virtúte tua: * cantábimus et psallémus virtútes tuas.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

In thy strength, O Lord, the king shall joy; * and in thy salvation he shall rejoice exceedingly.
2 Thou hast given him his heart's desire: * and hast not withholden from him the will of his lips.
3 For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness: * thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones.
4 He asked life of thee: * and thou hast given him length of days for ever and ever.
5 His glory is great in thy salvation: * glory and great beauty shalt thou lay upon him.
6 For thou shalt give him to be a blessing for ever and ever: * thou shalt make him joyful in gladness with thy countenance.
7 For the king hopeth in the Lord: * and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.
8 Let thy hand be found by all thy enemies: * let thy right hand find out all them that hate thee.
9 Thou shalt make them as an oven of fire, in the time of thy anger: * the Lord shall trouble them in his wrath, and fire shall devour them.
10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth: * and their seed from among the children of men.
11 For they have intended evils against thee: * they have devised counsels which they have not been able to establish.
12 For thou shalt make them turn their back: * in thy remnants thou shalt prepare their face.
13 Be thou exalted, O Lord, in thy own strength: * we will sing and praise thy power.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 23.

3 Quis ascéndet in montem Dómini?
5 Hic accípiet benedictiónem a Dómino: * et misericórdiam a Deo salutári suo.
6 Hæc est generátio quæréntium eum, * quæréntium fáciem Dei Jacob.
7 Attóllite portas príncipes vestras, † et elevámini portæ æternáles: * et introíbit Rex glóriæ.
8 Quis est iste Rex glóriæ? † Dóminus fortis et potens: * Dóminus potens in prǽlio.
9 Attóllite portas príncipes vestras, † et elevámini portæ æternáles: * et introíbit Rex glóriæ.
10 Quis est iste Rex glóriæ? * Dóminus virtútum ipse est Rex glóriæ.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof: * the world, and all they that dwell therein.
2 For he hath founded it upon the seas; * and hath prepared it upon the rivers.
3 Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord: * or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 The innocent in hands, and clean of heart, † who hath not taken his soul in vain, * nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour.
5 He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, * and mercy from God his Saviour.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, * of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob.
7 Lift up your gates, O ye princes, † and be ye lifted up, O eternal gates: * and the King of Glory shall enter in.
8 Who is this King of Glory? † the Lord who is strong and mighty: * the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your gates, O ye princes, † and be ye lifted up, O eternal gates: * and the King of Glory shall enter in.
10 Who is this King of Glory? * the Lord of hosts, he is the King of Glory.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Léctio sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

A Lesson from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Matth. 19. d.

In illo témpore: Dixit Petrus ad Jesum: Ecce nos relíquimus ómnia, et secúti sumus te: quid ergo erit nobis? Et réliqua.

At that time: Peter said unto Jesus: Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed Thee: what shall we have therefore? And so on.

Homilía sancti Hierónymi Presbýteri.

Homily by St. Jerome, Priest.

Lib. 3. in Matth. cap. 19.

℟. Deo grátias.

Peter was a fisherman, he was not rich, he earned his bread by his hand and skill, and nevertheless he is thus bold, and saith confidently: We have forsaken all. And because it sufficeth not to forsake only, he addeth that which to do is to be perfect: and followed Thee. We have done that which Thou hast commanded us, what reward therefore wilt Thou give us? And Jesus said unto them: Amen I say unto you, that ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. He said not, Ye which have forsaken all, for this did even Crates the philosopher, and they which have set nothing by riches are many, but, Ye which have followed Me. This did the Apostles, and this do believers do.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Responsorium VII.

℣. Ecce homo sine queréla, verus Dei cultor, ábstinens se ab omni ópere malo, et pérmanens in innocéntia sua.
℟. Ipse intercédat pro peccátis ómnium populórum, allelúja.

℟. This is he which wrought great wonders before God, and praised the Lord with all his heart. * May he pray for all people, that their sins may be forgiven unto them! Alleluia.
℣. Behold a man without blame, a worshipper of God in truth, keeping himself clean from every evil work, and abiding still in his innocency.
℟. May he pray for all people, that their sins may be forgiven unto them! Alleluia.

Lectio VIII.

℟. Amen.

Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
He whose feast-day we are keeping, * be our Advocate with God.
Amen.

℟. Deo grátias.

In the regeneration, when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, and when the dead shall rise again from corruption incorruptible, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones of judgment, condemning the twelve tribes of Israël, because, when ye believed in Me, they would not. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My Name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. This place agreeth well with that other where the Saviour saith: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. Every one, therefore, that hath set no store by affection, and riches, and the pleasures of the world, for Christ’s faith’s sake, and the preaching of the Gospel, shall receive an hundred-fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Responsorium VIII.

℟. Sint lumbi vestri præcíncti, et lucérnæ ardéntes in mánibus vestris: * Et vos símiles homínibus exspectántibus dóminum suum, quando revertátur a núptiis, allelúja.
℣. Vigiláte ergo, quia nescítis qua hora Dóminus vester ventúrus sit.
℟. Et vos símiles homínibus exspectántibus dóminum suum, quando revertátur a núptiis, allelúja.
℣. Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui sancto.
℟. Et vos símiles homínibus exspectántibus dóminum suum, quando revertátur a núptiis, allelúja.

℟. Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning, * and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when he will return from the wedding, Alleluia.
℣. Watch, therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
℟. And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when he will return from the wedding, Alleluia.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when he will return from the wedding, Alleluia.

Lectio IX.

Ad societátem cívium supernórum * perdúcat nos Rex Angelórum.
℟. Amen.

Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
May He that is the Angels’ King * to that high realm His people bring.
Amen.

℟. Deo grátias.

By reason of these words, an hundredfold, some will have it that there shall be a thousand years after the resurrection, wherein they that have forsaken all things shall receive an hundredfold of those things which they have forsaken, and shall inherit everlasting life. Such men consider not that though in other things this were worthy, as touching wives it is unseemly: for it becometh us not to think that he that hath forsaken one wife in this world, shall receive an hundred wives in that which is to come. But the meaning is this, that every one that for the Saviour’s sake hath forsaken earthly things, shall receive spiritual things: which things, being rightly weighed against earthly things, are as though an hundredfold were weighed against one.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

We praise Thee, O God: * we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord.
All the earth doth worship Thee, * the Father everlasting.
To Thee all Angels cry aloud, * the heavens, and all the Powers therein.
To Thee Cherubim and Seraphim * continually do cry:
Holy, * Holy, * Holy, * Lord God of Sabaoth.
Heaven and earth are full * of the majesty of Thy glory.
The glorious company of the Apostles * praise Thee:
The goodly fellowship of the Prophets * praise Thee:
The white-robed army of Martyrs * praise Thee:
The holy Church throughout all the world * doth acknowledge Thee:
The Father * of an infinite Majesty:
Thine honourable, true, * and only Son:
Also the Holy Ghost, * the Comforter.
Thou art the King of glory, * O Christ!
Thou art the everlasting Son * of the Father.
When Thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, * Thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb:
When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, * Thou didst open the kingdom of heaven to all believers:
Thou sittest at the right hand of God, * in the glory of the Father:
We believe that Thou shalt come * to be our Judge:
We therefore pray Thee, help Thy servants, * whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy precious Blood.
Make them to be numbered with Thy Saints * in glory everlasting.
O Lord, save Thy people, * and bless Thine inheritance.
Govern them, * and lift them up for ever.
Day by day * we magnify Thee;
And we worship Thy name, * ever world without end.
Vouchsafe, O Lord, this day, * to keep us without sin.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, * have mercy on us.
O Lord, let Thy mercy lighten upon us, * as our trust is in Thee.
O Lord, in Thee have I trusted: * let me never be confounded.

Psalmus 62.

8 Et in velaménto alárum tuárum exsultábo, adhǽsit ánima mea post te: * me suscépit déxtera tua.
9 Ipsi vero in vanum quæsiérunt ánimam meam, introíbunt in inferióra terræ: * tradéntur in manus gládii, partes vúlpium erunt.
10 Rex vero lætábitur in Deo, laudabúntur omnes qui jurant in eo: * quia obstrúctum est os loquéntium iníqua.
Psalmus 66.
1 Deus misereátur nostri, et benedícat nobis: * illúminet vultum suum super nos, et misereátur nostri.
2 Ut cognoscámus in terra viam tuam: * in ómnibus Géntibus salutáre tuum.
3 Confiteántur tibi pópuli Deus: * confiteántur tibi pópuli omnes.
4 Læténtur et exsúltent Gentes: * quóniam júdicas pópulos in æquitáte, et Gentes in terra dírigis.
5 Confiteántur tibi pópuli Deus, confiteántur tibi pópuli omnes: * terra dedit fructum suum.
6 Benedícat nos Deus, Deus noster, benedícat nos Deus: * et métuant eum omnes fines terræ.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

O God, my God, * to thee do I watch at break of day.
2 For thee my soul hath thirsted; * for thee my flesh, O how many ways!
3 In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: * so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.
4 For thy mercy is better than lives: * thee my lips shall praise.
5 Thus will I bless thee all my life long: * and in thy name I will lift up my hands.
6 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: * and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.
7 If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning: * because thou hast been my helper.
8 And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings: my soul hath stuck close to thee: * thy right hand hath received me.
9 But they have sought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth: * they shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes.
10 But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: * because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.

1 May God have mercy on us, and bless us: * may he cause the light of his countenance to shine upon us, and may he have mercy on us.
2 That we may know thy way upon earth: * thy salvation in all nations.
3 Let people confess to thee, O God: * let all people give praise to thee.
4 Let the nations be glad and rejoice: * for thou judgest the people with justice, and directest the nations upon earth.
5 Let the people, O God, confess to thee: let all the people give praise to thee: * the earth hath yielded her fruit.
6 May God, our God bless us, may God bless us: * and all the ends of the earth fear him.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, * for He hath visited and redeemed His people.
2 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, * in the house of His servant David:
3 As He spake by the mouth of His holy Prophets, * which have been since the world began:
4 That we should be saved from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:
5 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, * and to remember His holy covenant:
6 The oath which He sware to our father Abraham, * that He would grant unto us,
7 That we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, * might serve Him without fear,
8 In holiness and righteousness before Him * all the days of our life.
9 And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways:
10 To give knowledge of salvation unto His people, * by the remission of their sins;
11 Through the tender mercy of our God, * whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
12 To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, * to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
