Pater noster, qui es in cœlis: sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cœlo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris: et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem: sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven: hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us: and lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Ave María, grátia plena, Dóminus tecum: benedícta tu in muliéribus, et benedíctus fructus ventris tui Jesus. Sancta María, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatóribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Credo in Spíritum sanctum, sanctam Ecclésiam cathólicam, sanctórum communiónem, remissiónem peccatórum, carnis resurrectiónem, vitam ætérnam. Amen.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell: the third day He rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of sins, the Resurrection of the body. And the Life everlasting. Amen.
℣. Dómine, †︎ lábia mea apéries.
℟. Et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.
℣. O Lord, open Thou my lips.
℟. And my mouth shall show forth Thy praise.
In omnem terram * exívit sonus eórum, et in fines orbis terræ verba eórum.
Through all the earth, * their sound is gone out, and their words to the ends of the world.
Psalmus 18.
10 Timor Dómini sanctus, pérmanens in sǽculum sǽculi: * judícia Dómini vera, justificáta in semetípsa.
11 Desiderabília super aurum et lápidem pretiósum multum: * et dulcióra super mel et favum.

The heavens shew forth the glory of God, * and the firmament declareth the work of his hands.
2 Day to day uttereth speech, * and night to night sheweth knowledge.
3 There are no speeches nor languages, * where their voices are not heard.
4 Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth: * and their words unto the ends of the world.
5 He hath set his tabernacle in the sun: * and he, as a bridegroom coming out of his bride chamber,
6 Hath rejoiced as a giant to run the way: * His going out is from the end of heaven,
7 And his circuit even to the end thereof: * and there is no one that can hide himself from his heat.
8 The law of the Lord is unspotted, converting souls: * the testimony of the Lord is faithful, giving wisdom to little ones.
9 The justices of the Lord are right, rejoicing hearts: * the commandment of the Lord is lightsome, enlightening the eyes.
10 The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for ever and ever: * the judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.
11 More to be desired than gold and many precious stones: * and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
12 For thy servant keepeth them, * and in keeping them there is a great reward.
13 Who can understand sins? from my secret ones cleanse me, O Lord: * And from those of others spare thy servant.
14 If they shall have no dominion over me, then shall I be without spot: * and I shall be cleansed from the greatest sin.
15 And the words of my mouth shall be such as may please: * and the meditation of my heart always in thy sight.
16 O Lord, my helper, * and my redeemer.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
In omnem terram exívit sonus eórum, et in fines orbis terræ verba eórum.

Clamavérunt justi, * et Dóminus exaudívit eos.
The righteous cry, * and the Lord heareth.
Psalmus 33.
Benedícam Dóminum in omni témpore: * semper laus ejus in ore meo.
7 Immíttet Angelus Dómini in circúitu timéntium eum: * et erípiet eos.
11 Veníte fílii audíte me: * timórem Dómini docébo vos.

I will bless the Lord at all times, * his praise shall be always in my mouth.
2 In the Lord shall my soul be praised: * let the meek hear and rejoice.
3 O magnify the Lord with me; * and let us extol his name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me; * and he delivered me from all my troubles.
5 Come ye to him and be enlightened: * and your faces shall not be confounded.
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him: * and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear him: * and shall deliver them.
8 O taste, and see that the Lord is sweet: * blessed is the man that hopeth in him.
9 Fear the Lord, all ye his saints: * for there is no want to them that fear him.
10 The rich have wanted, and have suffered hunger: * but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good.
11 Come, children, hearken to me: * I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Who is the man that desireth life: * who loveth to see good days?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, * and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Turn away from evil and do good: * seek after peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: * and his ears unto their prayers.
16 But the countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil things: * to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The just cried, and the Lord heard them: * and delivered them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: * and he will save the humble of spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the just; * but out of them all will the Lord deliver them.
20 The Lord keepeth all their bones, * not one of them shall be broken.
21 The death of the wicked is very evil: * and they that hate the just shall be guilty.
22 The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants: * and none of them that trust in him shall offend.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
Clamavérunt justi, et Dóminus exaudívit eos.
The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth.

My heart hath uttered a good word: * I speak my works to the king;
2 My tongue is the pen of a scrivener * that writeth swiftly.
3 Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; * therefore hath God blessed thee for ever.
4 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, * O thou most mighty.
5 With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, * proceed prosperously, and reign.
6 Because of truth and meekness and justice: * and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.
7 Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, * into the hearts of the king's enemies.
8 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: * the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.
9 Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: * therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10 Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: * out of which the daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory.
11 The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; * surrounded with variety.
12 Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: * and forget thy people and thy father's house.
13 And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; * for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.
14 And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, * yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.
15 All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders, * Clothed round about with varieties.
16 After her shall virgins be brought to the king: * her neighbours shall be brought to thee.
17 They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: * they shall be brought into the temple of the king.
18 Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: * thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
19 They shall remember thy name * throughout all generations.
20 Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; * yea, for ever and ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
Constítues eos príncipes super omnem terram: mémores erunt nóminis tui Dómine.

Incipit liber Ezechiélis Prophétæ.
Here beginneth the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel.
Ezech. 1.
℟. Deo grátias.
And it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of King Jehoiachim’s captivity, the word of the Lord came unto Ezekiel, the son of Buzi, the Priest, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chebar, and the hand of the Lord was there upon him. And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the North, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof, (that is, out of the midst of the fire,) as the colour of amber.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Responsorium I.
Jube, domne, benedícere.
Unigénitus Dei Fílius * nos benedícere et adjuváre dignétur.
℟. Amen.
Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
May the Son, the Sole-begotten, * mercifully bless and keep us.
Amen.
℟. Deo grátias.
Also in the midst thereof the likeness of four living creatures; and this was their appearance, they had the likeness of a man. And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. Their feet were straight feet, and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot, and they sparkled like the colour of glowing brass. And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides, and they had faces and wings on four sides. And the wings of one were joined to the wings of another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Responsorium II.
Jube, domne, benedícere.
Spíritus sancti grátia * illúminet sensus et corda nostra.
℟. Amen.
Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
May the grace of God the Spirit * all our heart and mind enlighten.
Amen.
℟. Deo grátias.
As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man and the face of a lion on the right side, and they four had the face of an ox on the left side, and they four had the face of an eagle above. Thus were their faces, and their wings were stretched upward, two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies; and they went every one straight forward. Whither the spirit was to go, they went, and they turned not when they went.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Responsorium III.
Príncipes populórum * congregáti sunt cum Deo Abraham.
The princes of the people * are gathered together with the God of Abraham.
Psalmus 46.
Omnes Gentes plaúdite mánibus: * jubiláte Deo in voce exsultatiónis.
2 Quóniam Dóminus excélsus, terríbilis: * Rex magnus super omnem terram.
3 Subjécit pópulos nobis: * et Gentes sub pédibus nostris.
4 Elégit nobis hæreditátem suam: * spéciem Jacob, quam diléxit.
5 Ascéndit Deus in júbilo: * et Dóminus in voce tubæ.
6 Psállite Deo nostro, psállite: * psállite Regi nostro, psállite.
7 Quóniam Rex omnis terræ Deus: * psállite sapiénter.
8 Regnábit Deus super Gentes: * Deus sedet super sedem sanctam suam.
Amen.
O clap your hands, all ye nations: * shout unto God with the voice of Joy,
2 For the Lord is high, terrible: * a great king over all the earth.
3 He hath subdued the people under us; * and the nations under our feet.
4 He hath chosen for us his inheritance * the beauty of Jacob which he hath loved.
5 God is ascended with jubilee, * and the Lord with the sound of trumpet.
6 Sing praises to our God, sing ye: * sing praises to our king, sing ye.
7 For God is the king of all the earth: * sing ye wisely.
8 God shall reign over the nations: * God sitteth on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the people are gathered together, with the God of Abraham: * for the strong gods of the earth are exceedingly exalted.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
Príncipes populórum congregáti sunt cum Deo Abraham.
The princes of the people are gathered together with the God of Abraham.
Dedísti hæreditátem * timéntibus nomen tuum Dómine.
Thou hast given the heritage * to those that fear Thy Name, O Lord.
Psalmus 60.
Exaúdi Deus deprecatiónem meam: * inténde oratióni meæ.
2 A fínibus terræ ad te clamávi: * dum anxiarétur cor meum, in petra exaltásti me.
3 Deduxísti me, quia factus es spes mea: * turris fortitúdinis a fácie inimíci.
4 Inhabitábo in tabernáculo tuo in sǽcula: * prótegar in velaménto alárum tuárum.
5 Quóniam tu Deus meus exaudísti oratiónem meam: * dedísti hæreditátem timéntibus nomen tuum.
6 Dies super dies regis adjícies: * annos ejus usque in diem generatiónis et generatiónis.
7 Pérmanet in ætérnum in conspéctu Dei: * misericórdiam et veritátem ejus quis requíret?
8 Sic psalmum dicam nómini tuo in sǽculum sǽculi: * ut reddam vota mea de die in diem.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
Hear, O God, my supplication: * be attentive to my prayer,
2 To thee have I cried from the ends of the earth: * when my heart was in anguish, thou hast exalted me on a rock.
3 Thou hast conducted me; for thou hast been my hope; * a tower of strength against the face of the enemy.
4 In thy tabernacle I shall dwell for ever: * I shall be protected under the covert of thy wings.
5 For thou, my God, hast heard my prayer: * thou hast given an inheritance to them that fear thy name.
6 Thou wilt add days to the days of the king: * his years even to generation and generation.
7 He abideth for ever in the sight of God: * his mercy and truth who shall search?
8 So will I sing a psalm to thy name for ever and ever: * that I may pay my vows from day to day.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
Dedísti hæreditátem timéntibus nomen tuum Dómine.
Thou hast given the heritage to those that fear Thy Name, O Lord.
Annuntiavérunt * ópera Dei, et facta ejus intellexérunt.
They declared * the work of God, and understood His doings.
Psalmus 63.
Exaúdi Deus oratiónem meam cum déprecor: * a timóre inimíci éripe ánimam meam.
2 Protexísti me a convéntu malignántium: * a multitúdine operántium iniquitátem.
Amen.
Hear, O God, my prayer, when I make supplication to thee: * deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy.
2 Thou hast protected me from the assembly of the malignant; * from the multitude of the workers of iniquity.
3 For they have whetted their tongues like a sword; * they have bent their bow a bitter thing, to shoot in secret the undefiled.
4 They will shoot at him on a sudden, and will not fear: * they are resolute in wickedness.
5 They have talked of hiding snares; * they have said: Who shall see them?
6 They have searched after iniquities: * they have failed in their search.
7 Man shall come to a deep heart: * and God shall be exalted.
8 The arrows of children are their wounds: * and their tongues against them are made weak.
9 All that saw them were troubled; * And every man was afraid.
10 And they declared the works of God: * and understood his doings.
11 The just shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall hope in him: * and all the upright in heart shall be praised.

Every one had four faces - four faces, that is, and one body. If thou seek to know what Matthew teacheth concerning the Incarnation of the Lord, he teacheth no other doctrine than teacheth Mark, or Luke, or John. If thou seek to know what John teacheth, it is beyond all doubt that his doctrine is the doctrine of Matthew, and Mark, and Luke. If thou ask concerning Mark, he hath that which hath Matthew, and John, and Luke. If thou wilt know of Luke, know that teacheth as doth Matthew, and Mark, and John. Therefore every one hath four faces, for God knoweth and seeth in them but one faith, which thou mayest see in each and in all.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

De Expositióne sancti Gregórii Papæ super Ezechiélem Prophétam.
Homil. 3. Lib. 1.
℟. Deo grátias.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Responsorium VI.
Exaltabúntur * córnua justi, allelúja.
Thus shall be exalted * the horns of the righteous, Alleluia.
Psalmus 74.
5 Nolíte extóllere in altum cornu vestrum: * nolíte loqui advérsus Deum iniquitátem.
Amen.
We will praise thee, O God: * we will praise, and we will call upon thy name.
2 We will relate thy wondrous works: * When I shall take a time, I will judge justices.
3 The earth is melted, and all that dwell therein: * I have established the pillars thereof.
4 I said to the wicked: Do not act wickedly: * and to the sinners: Lift not up the horn.
5 Lift not up your horn on high: * speak not iniquity against God.
6 For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert hills: * For God is the judge.
7 One he putteth down, and another he lifteth up: * For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup of strong wine full of mixture.
8 And he hath poured it out from this to that: but the dregs thereof are not emptied: * all the sinners of the earth shall drink.
9 But I will declare for ever: * I will sing to the God of Jacob.
10 And I will break all the horns of sinners: * but the horns of the just shall be exalted.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
Exaltabúntur córnua justi, allelúja.
Thus shall be exalted the horns of the righteous, Alleluia.
Lux orta est * justo, allelúja, rectis corde lætítia, allelúja.
Light is sprung up * for the righteousness, Alleluia: and gladness for the upright in heart, Alleluia.
Psalmus 96.
Dóminus regnávit, exsúltet terra: * læténtur ínsulæ multæ.
2 Nubes, et calígo in circúitu ejus: * justítia, et judícium corréctio sedis ejus.
3 Ignis ante ipsum præcédet, * et inflammábit in circúitu inimícos ejus.
5 Montes, sicut cera fluxérunt a fácie Dómini: * a fácie Dómini omnis terra.
13 Lætámini justi in Dómino: * et confitémini memóriæ sanctificatiónis ejus.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper: * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
The Lord hath reigned, let the earth rejoice: * let many islands be glad.
2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: * justice and judgment are the establishment of his throne.
3 A fire shall go before him, * and shall burn his enemies round about.
4 His lightnings have shone forth to the world: * the earth saw and trembled.
5 The mountains melted like wax, at the presence of the Lord: * at the presence of the Lord of all the earth.
6 The heavens declared his justice: * and all people saw his glory.
7 Let them be all confounded that adore graven things, * and that glory in their idols.
8 Adore him, all you his angels: * Sion heard, and was glad.
9 And the daughters of Juda rejoiced, * because of thy judgments, O Lord.
10 For thou art the most high Lord over all the earth: * thou art exalted exceedingly above all gods.
11 You that love the Lord, hate evil: * the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints, he will deliver them out of the hand of the sinner.
12 Light is risen to the just, * and joy to the right of heart.
13 Rejoice, ye just, in the Lord: * and give praise to the remembrance of his holiness.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.
Lux orta est justo, allelúja, rectis corde lætítia, allelúja.
Light is sprung up for the righteousness, Alleluia: and gladness for the upright in heart, Alleluia.
Custodiébant * testimónia ejus, et præcépta ejus, allelúja.
They kept * His testimonies, and the ordinance that He gave them, Alleluia.
Psalmus 98.
Dóminus regnávit, irascántur pópuli: * qui sedet super Chérubim, moveátur terra.
2 Dóminus in Sion magnus: * et excélsus super omnes pópulos.
4 Tu parásti directiónes: * judícium et justítiam in Jacob tu fecísti.
Amen.
The Lord hath reigned, let the people be angry: * he that sitteth on the cherubims: let the earth be moved.
2 The Lord is great in Sion, * and high above all people.
3 Let them give praise to thy great name: for it is terrible and holy: * And the king's honour loveth judgment.
4 Thou hast prepared directions: * thou hast done judgment and justice in Jacob.
5 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and adore his footstool, * for it is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron among his priests: * and Samuel among them that call upon his name.
7 They called upon the Lord, and he heard them: * He spoke to them in the pillar of the cloud.
8 They kept his testimonies, * and the commandment which he gave them.
9 Thou didst hear them, O Lord our God: * thou wast a merciful God to them, and taking vengeance on all their inventions.
10 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and adore at his holy mountain: * for the Lord our God is holy.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: * world without end. Amen.

Léctio sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.
A Lesson from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
Matth. 9. b.
In illo témpore: Vidit Jesus hóminem sedéntem in telónio, Matthǽum nómine. Et ait illi: Séquere me. Et réliqua.
At that time: The Lord appointed other seventy-two also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place, whither He Himself would come. And so on.
Homilía sancti Hierónymi Presbýteri.
Homily by Pope St. Gregory.
Lib. 1. Comm. in Matth. cap. 9.
℟. Deo grátias.
Dearly beloved brethren, our Lord and Saviour doth sometimes admonish us by words, and sometimes by works. Yea, His very works do themselves teach us: for that which He doth silently His example still moveth us to copy. Behold how He sendeth forth His disciples to preach by two and two: since there are two commandments to love, that is, a commandment to love God, and a commandment to love our neighbour: and where there are not two, the one, being alone, hath not whereon to do the Lord's commandment. And no man can properly be said to love himself: for love tendeth outward toward our neighbour, if it be the love whereto the Gospel doth oblige us.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Responsorium VII.
℟. Amen.
Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
He whose feast-day we are keeping, * be our Advocate with God.
Amen.
℟. Deo grátias.
Behold, the Lord sendeth forth His disciples to preach by two and two: and thus doing, He doth silently teach us that whoseover loveth not his neighbour, such an one it behooveth not to take upon him the office of a preacher. Well also is it said that He sent them before His face into every city and place whither He Himself would come. The Lord followeth His preachers: first cometh preaching, and then the Lord Himself cometh to the house of our mind, whither the word of exhortation hath come before: and so cometh the truth into our mind.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Responsorium VIII.
Jube, domne, benedícere.
Ad societátem cívium supernórum * perdúcat nos Rex Angelórum.
℟. Amen.
Sir, be pleased to give the blessing.
May He that is the Angels’ King * to that high realm His people bring.
Amen.
℟. Deo grátias.
Therefore to preachers saith Isaiah: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight an highway for our God. And again the Psalmist saith: Spread a path before Him That rideth upon the West. The Lord rideth upon the West; above that from which in death He veiled His glory hath He royally exalted that glory that excelleth, even the glory of His rising again. He rideth upon the West, Who, being risen again from the dead, is throned high above the death to which He bowed. Before Him, therefore, That rideth upon the West, we spread a path, when we set forth His glory before the eyes of your mind, to the end that He Himself may come after, and Himself enlighten the same your minds by His presence and His love.
But Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
